Adult ADHD treatment · decision aid
For anyone weighing how to treat ADHD they've already been diagnosed with — for themselves, or helping someone they care about think it through. This tool is for people already diagnosed. It does not diagnose ADHD.
Newly diagnosed adults usually arrive at this with one of two stories in their head: "ADHD meds are basically speed — I'll be drugged, I should just try harder", or "the medication will fix everything, sign me up". Both are deciding on a feeling, not the full picture. The honest middle is that there are three real paths — medication, non-medication supports, or both — and Australia's ADHD guideline has a recommended shape for them.
Medication — stimulant medicines are first-line for most adults; non-stimulant medicines are an option if stimulants don't suit.
Non-medication supports — psychological and behavioural therapy, ADHD coaching, skills and structure, sleep and exercise.
Both together — medication and supports running at the same time, the guideline's recommended shape for most adults.
This page hands you those three paths, the four questions to bring to your appointment, and the honest trade-offs — so you can walk in to decide, on your terms, with your prescriber. It isn't a "you should take this / you shouldn't" engine. It never assesses whether you have ADHD, never names a specific medicine, dose or brand, and never tells you what to do.
